FAIR ELECTIONS and VOTING RIGHTS

FAIR ELECTIONS (DEFENDING AND PROMOTING VOTING RIGHTS/ENDING GERRYMANDERING/CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM)

I support the ongoing movement for non-partisan redistricting, such as that which has been advanced by Fair Districts Ohio (https://www.fairdistrictsohio.org/), to eliminate political party control over our elections. Citizens should choose who they want to represent them, rather than representatives choosing which citizens they want to represent. Also, when our electoral systems have come under attack from parties wanting to suppress the vote in certain demographics, we need to ensure all people’s right to vote. I support laws that make it easier for Ohioans to vote, such as automatic voter registration, and I reject the propaganda that suggests that voter fraud is rampant in our elections. And money is not speech. Our elections should not be auctions, and public financing of campaigns for public office should be part of a comprehensive overhaul of our campaign financing system.

And I was supportive of a YES vote in this year’s Ohio primary on ISSUE 1. This redistricting proposal will be a workable and effective step towards improving fairness in our elections and reducing the disenfranchising effects of gerrymandering.

NO CORPORATE OR PAC MONEY

I will not accept corporate or PAC money. One of the reasons I am running is because control by lobbying groups of the legislative agenda in our state government is out of control, so it follows that I will not accept any corporate donations in exchange for favors in the future. My campaign will rely on small donors who, when elected, I pledge to support with policies that aim to create greater prosperity for the hard-working families of our county and state.
